Surfing

The surf in South Nicaragua is really awesome. Nice Swells, Offshore winds, crystal clear Water and nice temperatures. The conditions are perfect for both beginners and advanced. The main town of San Juan is surrounded by numerous beaches, which offer different conditions for all levels.

To come to the right time, you should know that there are two surf seasons. The waves from November - April are usually smaller, the wind is really offshore and the water is chillier. So beginners have best conditions to learn how to surf and enjoy their first waves. In May the waves get bigger and the water warmer, so advanced surfers will get what they want and can improve their skills.

Some rules about security 1. inform yourself before you go about the spot (currents, rocks...) 2. don't go, if the waves are to high for your level. Better stay on the beach and learn from the better surfers 3. use rashguards, sunscreen and maybe even a hat, so you don't get sunburned and can surf the next days as well. The sun in Nicaragua is really strong!!

If someone should be interested in renting boards and getting some lessons, they are various options offered in town. Renting a board normally costs about 10$ a day. Ask for discout if you want to rent for a week. Boards can be rented as well directly at the beach Playa Maderas.
